Windquest Series Windows

Casements

Casements swing open at the side and can be stacked and mulled with other casements, awnings, stationary picture windows, direct sets and/or doors in various configurations

Awnings

Awning windows open at the bottom and can be stacked and mulled with other awnings, casements, stationary picture windows, direct sets and/or doors in various configurations

Double Hungs

Double hungs have two sash, one above the other — both operate by sliding up and down. Cottage-style double hungs have a bottom sash that is taller than the top sash. NOTE: Triple hungs may be custom-ordered and have similar features and options as double hungs.

Single Hungs

Like double hungs, single hungs have two sash, one above the other, but the top sash is stationary; nearly any double hung can be custom-made into a single hung, however these models were designed specifically to have one sash operate as standard.

Sliders

Sliders have two or three sash aligned horizontally with side-to-side sliding operation in one or two of the sash; picture sliders have a sliding sash on either side of a usually wider stationary sash

Radius

Standard radius window shapes include full-circles, half-circles, quarter-circles, ellipticals and ovals; they may be installed as stand-alone units or are stacked over other windows or doors; custom radius shapes may be requested (Note that operational casements, double hungs & doors are available with radius-tops, but are included with those products)

Geometric

Geometric window shapes may be custom-ordered; triangles, trapezoids, octagons & pentagons and other shapes may be installed as stand-alone units or stacked over other windows or doors

Accessories

Kolbe windows & doors are available with brickmould trim, sill nosing, mull covers, j-channels & more in various sizes and profiles.

Windquest Series Doors

Glass

+
Glass Terminology
Standard - Glass for Impact Performance (IP) Units

  1. Double pane insulating glass unit
  2. LoE²-270 on surface #3 (for optional LoE coatings, see Glass Terminology)
  3. Argon gas (for exceptions, see Glass Terminology)
  4. Thermo-Edge, stainless steel spacer bars
  5.  Impact Laminated Glass - two pieces of glass fused together with a plastic interlayer
  • Adds protection in severe weather
  • Helps prevent broken glass from causing injury
  • Helps to protect against intruders
  • Greater UV blockage prevents furniture and fabrics from fading
  • Reduces sound transmission

Standard - Glass for High Performance (HP) Units

Double pane glass* achieves energy efficiency across various climate zones

  1. Double pane insulating glass unit
  2. LoE²-270 (for optional LoE coatings, see Glass Terminology)
  3. Argon gas (for exceptions, see Glass Terminology)
  4. Thermo-Edge, stainless steel spacer bars

*Double pane glass is standard for most Kolbe products. Size and other limitations may apply. In doors, both panes are tempered for safety. Windows may be ordered tempered as well, which may be required due to the glass size and/or to meet local building codes.

Standard - Glass for Energy Performance (EP) Units

Triple pane glass units for EP units achieve insulating values nearly twice that of current ENERGY STAR® requirements:

  1. Triple pane insulating glass unit
  2. LoE²-270 on surface #2  (for optional LoE coatings, see Glass Terminology)
  3. Argon gas (for exceptions, see Glass Terminology)
  4. Thermo-Edge, stainless steel spacer bars
  5. LoE²-180 on surface #5

Option - Neat Glass

Neat® glass goes through a special sputter-coating process to make the exterior surface ultra smooth. Water "sheets off" more readily than it would on uncoated glass, helping rinse away dirt, and therefore requiring less cleaning time (view video).

NOTE: Not available on units with specialty glass on surface #1 or 2.

Option - Preserve Protective Film

Preserve™ is an optional, protective film that protects glass from scratches during transit and construction, as well as helping to reduce the time involved in job site clean-up (view video).

NOTE: Not available on single-glazed units, units with true divided lites or other small insulating glass units, or some types of decorative glass. Contact your local Kolbe dealer for more information.

Divided Lites

Option - Performance Divided Lites (PDL)

Performance divided lites offer the appearance of true divided lites without using separate lites of glass. This achieves energy efficiency along with historical beauty. When PDL bars are requested:

  1. High-profile, beveled bars are adhered to the interior & exterior of a single insulating glass unit; bar widths include 7/8", 1-1/8", 1-3/4" and 2-1/4"
  2. Optionally, low-profile, beveled bars are adhered to the interior of a single insulating glass unit*, while high profile bars are adhered to the exterior; bar widths include 7/8" and 1-1/8"
  • The bars are finished to match the exterior or interior of the product
  • Champagne-colored spacer bars are positioned within the glass unit to align with the interior & exterior bars, further simulating the appearance of true divided lites
  • The spacer bars allow "air flow" throughout the unit, creating a large, unobstructed thermal break

*The optional low-profile interior bars match the standard low-profile interior PDL bars for active double hungs, single hungs & single sliders.

Grilles-in-the-Airspace (GIA) for Vinyl Products

  • Achieves a style similar to true divided lites
  • Aluminum bars are sealed within the "airspace" of insulating glass units*
  • Easy to clean, with no obstruction on the interior or exterior of the glass unit
  • The bars allow air-flow throughout the insulating glass unit, creating an unobstructed thermal break, maintaining an energy efficiency not possible with true divided lites
  1. Contoured, aluminum bars (finishes below)
  2. Flat, aluminum bars (finishes below)
  3. "Pencil-shaped" brass bars
  4. "Pencil-shaped" pewter bars

Finish Options on Contoured & Flat Bars (contoured bars shown)

  • White
  • Beige
  • Sand
  • Rustic
  • Hartford Green
  • Chutney
  • Natural Oak
  • Dark Oak
  • Natural Cherry

GIA for Vinyl

NOTES: Ask your dealer about other options. Some units are available with:

  • Flat brass bars
  • Two-tones, i.e. one color or wood appearance option on the interior and a different one on the exterior
  • Custom patterns & bar "shapes" (limitations apply due to bending capabilities)
  • Diamond patterns are not available

*For triple pane units, the bars are held within the exterior airspace.GIA are not available on Latitude Series units with triple pane glass or Windquest EP doors.

**The wood "finishes" are wood appearance options and not real wood.
