NOTES:

The below glass options apply to most Deluxe and Standard door and sidelite panels.

Standard Double Pane Insulating Glass for Energy Efficiency across U.S. Climate Zones

  1. Double Pane Insulating Glass (standard)
  2. LoE²-270 or request a different LoE coating such as LoE²-240 or LoE³-366
  3. Argon Gas (standard)
  4. Thermo-Edge, Stainless Steel Spacer Bars (standard)

ThermaPlus (option)

  1. Double Pane Insulating Glass
  2. LoE²-270 (or substitute a different LoE coating, such as LoE³-366 or LoE²-240)
  3. Argon Gas
  4. ThermaPlus Coating on indoor surface of the glass
  • Specially-designed, heat-activated coating augments the energy efficiency
  • Designed to meet increasingly stringent energy requirements for tax credit eligibility
  1. Thermo-Edge, Stainless Steel Spacer Bars

Glass Option - Neat Glass

You may request Neat® glass on any product with double or triple pane glass and LoE coating(s)*. Here are the benefits:

  1. Rain sheets off more efficiently, so water spotting is reduced
  2. Dirt washes away in the rain more readily, so you spend less time cleaning
  3. Allows more daylight in than comparable competitive products

How does it work?

A titanium dioxide layer is applied, which reacts chemically with the sun's UV rays and causes organic materials to decompose. When it rains, the dirt rinses away. Plus smoother glass is cleaner glass. The sputter coating process makes the glass ultra smooth, so the water "sheets off" more readily than it would on uncoated glass, and it allows more visible light transmittance than any comparable competitive product.

Glass Option - For Safety, Security & Quiet

  1. Double Pane Insulating Glass
  2. LoE Coating Options
  3. Argon Gas
  4. Thermo-Edge, Stainless Steel Spacer Bars
  5. Laminated Glass - two pieces of glass fused together with a plastic interlayer
  • Helps prevent broken glass from causing injury
  • Helps to protect against intruders
  • Greater UV blockage prevents furniture and fabrics from fading
  • Reduces sound transmission

NOTE: Either one or both pane(s) may be laminated. If products must meet specific impact or design pressure ratings, they may or may not incorporate laminated glass, and may require construction and structural modifications as well.

Glass Option - Preserve Protective Film

  • Recommended for all windows & doors to protect the glass during shipping & installation
  • Film applied to the interior and exterior of insulating glass as they are assembled
  • After installation simply peel the film off the glass, and along goes job site dirt and debris, as well as paint or stain spatters. What's left is clean and clear – beautiful windows and doors.

Provides protection during:

  • Glazing and assembly of the windows and doors
  • Packaging, loading and shipping processes
  • Unloading, carried onto the job site, exposure to daily construction
  • Installation

NOTE: Not available on single-glazed units, units with true divided lites or other small insulating glass units, or some types of decorative glass. Contact your local Kolbe dealer for more information.

Divided Lites

The Performance Divided Lite (PDL) System

The performance divided lite (PDL) system uses double pane insulating glass units with bars adhered to the interior and exterior of the glass unit. Plus, spacer bars are held within the insulating glass unit. The visual continuity of the interior bars, spacer bars, and exterior bars creates the illusion of true divided lites.

The spacer bars allow air and/or argon gas to flow within the glass unit. Therefore, due to the large, unobstructed thermal break, the products are more energy efficient than products with true divided lites.

PDL for Deluxe Doors

Deluxe doors are available with 1" wide PDL bars with an ovolo-like profile. Spacer bars are a champagne color; bronze and mill finish spacer bars are optional. PDL is not available on Deluxe doors with decorative glass.

PDL for Standard Doors

Standard fiberglass doors are available with wood or aluminum PDL bars, depending on whether the panel is textured or smooth, whether the bars are on the interior or exterior surface, and whether they are finished, primed or unfinished. If the panel is factory-finished, the bars will be finished to complement the door panel.

PDL bars for Standard doors are available in widths of 5/8", 7/8", 1-1/8", 1-3/4", 2-1/4" and 4-1/2". The bars have a beveled profile; interior bars are available with an ovolo or square profile option. Spacer bars are a champagne color; bronze and mill finish spacer bars are optional. Custom PDL bar widths and profiles are available.

NOTE: Various circumstances – such as radius grille patterns – may require different PDL bar materials. PDL is not available on panels with blinds, venting panels, or panels with decorative glass.

Grilles-in-the-Airspace (GIA) for Standard Doors

Standard fiberglass doors are available with grilles-in-the-airspace (GIA). GIA offers the aesthetic of divided lites, without obstructing the interior or exterior glass surface, making the glass easy to clean. Aluminum bars are sealed within the insulating glass unit, allowing air and/or argon gas to flow within the glass unit. Bar types include:

  • 3/4" contoured bars
  • 5/8" flat bars
  • 5/16" pencil-shaped bars in brass or pewter

Finish Options:

  • White

  • Beige

  • Sand

  • Rustic

  • Hartford
    Green
  • Chutney

  • Light
    Wood
  • Dark
    Wood

Some may be available with:

  • Flat brass bars
  • Two-tones, i.e. one color or wood appearance option on the interior and a different one on the exterior
  • Custom patterns

NOTE: GIA options for panels with blinds and venting panels are slightly different than what is outlined here; please follow the links at left to Panels with Blinds and Venting Panels for more details. Decorative glass is not available with GIA.
