Single hung picture window combinations have operating single hungs on either side of a stationary studio unit

Mullling Information

IP units - To meet impact certification requirements, IP units must be mulled with reinforced, structural spread mulls. They must be mulled in the field (i.e., on the job site).
HP units - To meet design pressure ratings, HP units must be mulled with reinforced, structural spread mulls. They may be mulled in the factory or in the field (i.e. on the job site).

Construction

Both sash & frame have fusion-welded corners for strong corner seals
Mulitple chambers within the uPVC extrusions provide strength & create a thermal barrier for superior insulating value; they also help reduce outside noise
Quality construction makes required maintenance minimal

Applications

For New Construction

3-1/4" overall frame depth; 1-1/8" nailing fin setback; 2-1/8" interior jamb
Integral 1-1/8" nailing fin provides easier installation and helps seal the window opening

For Replacement

3-1/4" overall frame depth; no nailing fin

Glass Terminology, Features & Benefits (expand for details -->)

LoE²-270 is standard for most Kolbe products, excluding units with finely crafted glass

Achieves energy efficiency in all U.S. climate zones
Blocks 83% of harmful UV rays
Blocks 96% of sun's infrared heat
May be substituted with other LoE coatings to achieve specific energy needs

LoE³-366 may be used instead of LoE²-270 to achieve specific energy needs; option for most Kolbe products

Balances solar control with high visibility
Maximizes protection against heat loss in winter
Blocks more solar heat gain than other clear glass coatings

LoE²-240 may be used instead of LoE²-270 to achieve specific energy needs; option for most Kolbe products

Is lightly tinted to reduce solar glare in sunny regions
Achieves solar control over a wider range of the spectrum than other LoE coatings
Offers more visibility than bronze- or gray-tinted glass at less expense

LoE²-180 is used on surface #5 of triple pane insulating glass units

Lets more daylight in than ordinary LoE glass
Ideal for passive solar applications because it allows the winter sun's heat to pass into the home
Blocks 76% of the sun's harmful UV rays
When combined with other LoE coatings, its insulation value (U-factor) can be as low as 0.19

Argon Gas is standard for most Kolbe products, excluding units shipping to or through high altitude areas and units with finely crafted glass

Helps reduce energy transfer through insulating glass (IG) units
May be replaced with air in any IG unit upon request

Thermo-Edge Spacers are standard for most Kolbe products, with a few exceptions such as small radius units and units with finely crafted glass

Hollow stainless steel bars filled with dessicants
Reduce the potential for interior condensation
Help prevent heat loss
Improve overall U-values

Tempered Glass is standard for all doors and windows over 35 sq. ft.

Makes glass shatter into small fragments rather than large sharp shards
Is often specified when safety is of utmost concern
May be specifed along with nearly any other option

Laminated Glass - two pieces of glass laminated with a plastic interlayer

When glass shatters, shards adhere to plastic interlayer
Is often specified for safety
Used for impact resistant products

Single Pane Glass may be specified for Ultra & Heritage Series products, excluding Majesta Double Hungs and units with finely crafted glass

May be necessary to achieve historic authenticity in historic renovation projects

Glass Option - Neat Glass

You may request Neat® glass on any product with double or triple pane glass and LoE coating(s)*. Here are the benefits:

Rain sheets off more efficiently, so water spotting is reduced
Dirt washes away in the rain more readily, so you spend less time cleaning
Allows more daylight in than comparable competitive products

How does it work?

A titanium dioxide layer is applied, which reacts chemically with the sun's UV rays and causes organic materials to decompose. When it rains, the dirt rinses away. Plus smoother glass is cleaner glass. The sputter coating process makes the glass ultra smooth, so the water "sheets off" more readily than it would on uncoated glass, and it allows more visible light transmittance than any comparable competitive product.

Glass Option - Preserve Protective Film

Film applied to the interior and exterior of insulating glass as they are assembled
After installation simply peel the film off the glass, and along goes job site dirt and debris, as well as paint or stain spatters. What's left is clean and clear – beautiful windows and doors.

Provides protection during:

Glazing and assembly of the windows and doors
Packaging, loading and shipping processes
Unloading, carried onto the job site, exposure to daily construction

Divided Lites

Performance Divided Lites (PDL)

Performance divided lites offer the appearance of true divided lites without using separate lites of glass. This achieves energy efficiency along with historical beauty. When PDL bars are requested:

High-profile, beveled bars are adhered to the interior & exterior of a single insulating glass unit; bar widths include 7/8", 1-1/8", 1-3/4" and 2-1/4"
Optionally, low-profile, beveled bars are adhered to the interior of a single insulating glass unit*, while high profile bars are adhered to the exterior; bar widths include 7/8" and 1-1/8"

The bars are finished to match the exterior or interior of the product
Champagne-colored spacer bars are positioned within the glass unit to align with the interior & exterior bars, further simulating the appearance of true divided lites
The spacer bars allow "air flow" throughout the unit, creating a large, unobstructed thermal break

*The optional low-profile interior bars match the standard low-profile interior PDL bars for active double hungs, single hungs & single sliders.

Grilles-in-the-Airspace (GIA) for vinyl products

Achieves a style similar to true divided panes with unique benefits
Aluminum bars are sealed within the "airspace" of insulating glass units*
Easy to clean, with no obstruction on the interior or exterior of the glass unit
The bars allow air-flow throughout the insulating glass unit, creating an unobstructed thermal break, maintaining an energy efficiency not possible with true divided panes

Air, Water & Structural Test Reports Manual - Includes test data for both wood & vinyl windows and doors. Includes DP ratings; air and water infiltration test results (psf), and structural test results (psf), Hallmark certification numbers, TDI approval information, FL approval information, HVHZ approval information, and Dade County Notice of Acceptance. Products approved for impact performance are noted with the zone of approval.
