Caring for the Environment
To meet the goal of being a responsible corporate citizen, Kolbe Windows & Doors has an Environmental, Health & Safety Department (EHS). EHS is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment, both for our employees and our planet. While our process is based on a renewable resource – wood – there are still many environmental challenges in this industry. Our Environmental Specialist assists us in pro-actively dealing with these continual environmental concerns.
Kolbe’s commitment to the environment is clear. We were one of the first millwork companies to incorporate a system to capture and thermally destroy virtually 100% of the wood preservative by-products. All by-products of the K-Kron II system are disposed of properly, using DNR- and EPA-approved methods. In addition, we have formal programs in place for air, hazardous waste, recycling, waste water, storm water and pollution prevention.
Kolbe’s recycling program is self-sustaining (even after paying landfill fees for solid waste disposal) and turns a profit each year. This money is returned to the recycling and pollution prevention programs to make improvements in the following years. Items that are recycled or reused include aluminum scrap, aluminum cans, batteries, cardboard, cardboard barrels, computer components, fluorescent light bulbs, freon, glass bottles, heavy cardboard load strips, metal drums, oil, oil filters, plastic bottles, sawdust, scrap metal, steel banding, styrene, tires, window glass, wood chips, wood with nails and wood pallets.
Further proof of our commitment to environmental stewardship can be found in our downloadable brochure: Environmental Performance Summary. (151KB, Jan.2004)
We at Kolbe Windows & Doors are located in what is known as Wisconsin’s north woods, so we understand the value of a clean environment. That’s why we continue to find new ways to care for our employees and for our environment.
