Kolbe’s impact resistant K-Force windows & doors provide coastal communities with safety, strength and beauty

Kolbe products will be on display at IBS 2012, booth W3729

Wausau, Wis. (Feb. 2012) – Appropriate for the Orlando setting, Kolbe's hurricane impact resistant products will be exhibited at the 2012 International Builders Show (IBS) in booth W3729. Kolbe offers impact certified casement, awning, double hung, transom, segment head and half-circle top windows, plus outswing entrance doors and lift and slide doors. All feature the strength and durability to withstand hurricane force winds and flying debris.

"The coastal regions offer some of North America's most breathtaking views," says Cindy Bremer, Kolbe's vice president of marketing. "They also are subject to some of the country's most unpredictable, often volatile, weather patterns. Kolbe's breadth of impact resistant windows and doors help keep coastal communities safe, with the same beauty that can be found in non-impact products."

Kolbe's K-Force® impact products are constructed without unsightly brackets, visible rods or extra locks, resulting in traditional styling, clean design and easy operation. Tested extensively to meet or exceed the strict building codes of the coastal regions, K-Force window and door units are available in aluminum clad Ultra Series, all-wood Heritage Series and Windquest® Series vinyl products.

Windquest products meet requirements of the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) and received notice of acceptance in compliance with Miami-Dade County codes, some of the most stringent requirements by any jurisdiction. These products use impact laminated double pane insulating glass as standard. The glass is designed to stay intact if it is broken, which has the added benefits of providing increased security and quieter interiors.

Kolbe's Ultra Series Sterling double hung windows with K-Force impact performance upgrades also have achieved HVHZ certification in the state of Florida, where wind speeds can exceed 140 miles per hour. In addition, several Ultra Series products have been certified to meet impact testing criteria for large missile impact Level D and Wind Zone 4 testing standards (IPD4). For example: Sterling double hungs, Majesta® double hung windows, and TerraSpan® lift and slide doors up to 10 feet tall.

Kolbe's Ultra Series products have exteriors clad in low-maintenance, extruded aluminum containing recycled content. The outer, metal surfaces may be finished in environmentally friendly, durable coatings using a broad palette of colors. For the interior, a range of sustainably harvested wood species can be selected, such as those certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. Kolbe products' environmental attributes also support projects pursuing green goals including U.S. Green Building Council's LEED® Rating System™, Green Globes™ and ENERGY STAR®.

Kolbe's website contains a database for thousands of Kolbe's ENERGY STAR qualified products, as well as air, water, structural and thermal reports. The site's Architect Library and online resources can help simplify the research and specifying process. For example, design teams can easily communicate and visually customize many Ultra Series' product dimensions and functionality using Kolbe's 3D Revit® building information models (BIM). In addition to BIM tools, visitors can access 2-D drawings; warranties, installation and maintenance information, and online videos to demonstrate product operation and performance testing.
