Consumer Reports on Kolbe
Upbeat housing forecasts made for a giddy International Builders' Show last week. Consumer Reports editors and analysts were among the 60,000+ attendees there to view the latest building products, practices and technologies from more than 900 exhibitors. They compiled a list of five trends they expect to take hold. While many building products included computerized connectivity, they recognized a more organic connection between indoors and outdoors – as depicted by Kolbe's lift-and-slide door systems and other massive window and door products.

Award Winner
One of Period Homes' 2012 Palladio Awards goes to a home which features Kolbe windows: Georgian of Today.
"Three sets of French windows overlooking the courtyard serve as the [kitchen's] focal point... the owners liked to open them and make the kitchen feel more a part of the outdoors,' says Thies [principal of J. Lawson Thies Architects]. 'The kitchen is centered with the garage, which we treated as a garden element. The focus of the kitchen view and courtyard is the limestone entryway to the garage. It's one of the nicer moments in the house.'"

In the June 2012 issue of Door & Window magazine, Kolbe Executive Vice President, Jeff DeLonay, is quoted often. "'If you want to make a profit you have to sell something,' says De Lonay. 'The reason you implement lean is for your customer. You have to paint a picture for them of why you are doing this so they can clearly see it.'"
This article by Tara Taffera, editor/publisher of DWM/Shelter magazine, provides great insight into the complexity of manufacturing windows & doors, and how "lean improvement" can be used to make any business more efficient.

Period Homes Magazine, Additional Spaces
The May 2012 issue of Period Home magazine features the restoration of a 1938 Colonial Revival home. It fit well within its Boston suburb -- a quiet, tree-lined boulevard near the local school and commuter rail stration. Yet, the owners wanted to modernize, expand, and embellish on the character of the home.
Kolbe windows complement the style, yet sizes that are larger than the original windows brighten the home. Now, the owners see their world in a whole new light.

Central Wisconsin Business: (link no longer valid)
"...First it was the easy-to-spot baby-blue colored trucks of Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork Co. that passed by. 'See that?' I said to my unamused sister, a Chicago resident not completely captivated with the Wausau area. 'Those windows and doors are from Wausau,' I added. From there, I began telling her about the high-end windows and how they're popular throughout the U.S., including among famous people and on the East Coast."
