Cutlite – also known as True Divided Lites or TDL – is comprised of 1-1/8" wide bars that frame and hold individual 5/8" thick* insulating glass units. The bars interlock with half-lap joints for strength and security; profile shadow lines enhance the warm, rich look. This is the traditional method of creating grilles and, therefore, is perfect for renovations with historic authenticity as a major concern.

Cutlite bars are pine as standard, although other wood species may be requested. They are unfinished on the interior and primed on the exterior as standard. Or, they may be prefinished on the interior with latex paint or wood stain colors. View our interior finish page for the latest options available. Custom bar widths and profiles may be requested. Narrow bars may require single glazing, however.

NOTES: *Traditional double hungs & sliders with cutlite will have 1/2" thick insulating glass units.
Magnum Series double hungs and radius windows with aluminum cladding on the exterior are not available with cutlite.
Grille Patterns
Cutlite is available in various patterns. The most common pattern is rectangular, known as colonial grilles. Colonial patterns have been pre-determined for our standard-sized windows and doors, and may be viewed in the size charts for each product. But, ideas are welcome! It is not unusual to receive orders for custom patterns... even patterns with radius or angled bars may be possible.
