Atlanta Dream Home Come True

The dream has come true: the concept delivered, the design made real, the construction complete, and the homeowner now basks in the luxurious comforts that were previously only in their imagination. Sharing this vision and helping bring it to reality, Kolbe windows and doors were provided and installed throughout the 2005 Atlanta Magazine Dream Home.

"The people at Kolbe treat every client's project like a dream home. Although we're in Wausau, Wisconsin and the home may be in Atlanta or Chicago or San Diego, our people bring a tremendous sense of pride and dedication in creating the products that become a part of that dream," says Mike Salsieder, President of Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork Co., Inc.

Located on the prestigious Country Club of the South in Alpharetta, Georgia, the distinctive, 12,000-square-foot residence exemplifies the talents of its creators and the quality of its construction. As Lewis Reeves, builder, told Atlanta Magazine: "Anyone can do cookie-cutter homes, but I love a challenge and never want to get bored. The Dream Home is as good as it gets – absolutely gorgeous."

Celebrating over 60 years of superior quality and style, Kolbe manufactures the industry's most diverse range of wood, clad and vinyl windows and doors. Contractors, architects and homeowners choose from standard sizes or an array of custom sizes and shapes. Each order is built at the time it is placed and uniquely custom-crafted to each customer's specifications.

For the Dream Home's Tudor-inspired design, the familiar silhouette of Kolbe's arch-top windows and doors repeats across the house's front elevation in varying sizes of inswing casements, double hung windows and narrow French doors. These smoothly transition to a two-story complement of large bays comprised of classic, divided lites and crowned with curved casements. Once inside, guests are drawn through the foyer through an open floor plan guided by the welcoming natural light and inviting views framed by each window. Further exemplifying this warmth and beauty, five sets of Kolbe's French doors line the family room's far wall opening onto the covered lanai and embrace the outdoors as part of the living space.

Lewis Reeves Homes and Michael Swilley Design Group Inc. were involved throughout the Dream Home's two-year timeline. Careful handling of Kolbe's carefully crafted products was carried through installation. The construction team weathered scorching summer heat and three hurricanes. As the Dream Home neared completion, evacuees seeking shelter in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina arrived in Atlanta.

Aiding the plight of both those relocating to Atlanta and current residents who also were in need, the Country Club of the South Charity Guild hosted tours of the Atlanta Magazine Dream Home with proceeds benefiting organizations that help people struggling with homelessness, job loss, medical challenges and more. Throughout November and December 2005, nearly 5,000 visitors passed through the stately doors.
