Kolbe believes that quality is in the details. That’s why we insist on

using a glazing system to achieve optimum energy efficiency of the

overall window unit. Windquest Series products are designed to meet

very specific needs, see below for the standard glass used within each

application type.

Impact Performance (IP) units are specially designed to meet the strict performance

standards necessary to achieve impact certification. The durability of the double pane

LoE

2

-270 insulating laminated glass utilized in IP units contributes greatly to meeting

this criteria. Specially designed with two pieces of glass fused together with a plastic

interlayer

(# 5 on diagram)

, the interlayer holds the glass in place if the glass breaks. Not

only does this glass provide a greater level of safety and security from flying debris and

intruders, it also helps to reduce sound transmittance levels and provides the ultimate

in UV blockage

Windquest Series IP products are interior glazed with the laminated pane

toward the outdoors (as shown), except for sliding patio doors which are

exterior glazed with the laminated pane towards the interior.

High Performance (HP) units are built and tested to offer optimal design pressure

ratings. The durability of the double pane LoE

2

-270 insulating glass utilized in HP units

contributes greatly to meeting these ratings.

Enhance your HP units by choosing a tinted, patterned or colored glass to add visual

interest or privacy and shading to your windows and doors. Other LoE glass options are

also available; see page 11 for more details.

igh

P

erformance

(HP)

Energy Performance (EP) units are built to meet or exceed strict energy

requirements. Insulating values are nearly twice that which is currently required by

ENERGY STAR

®

. Window units are certified to meet an R5 energy performance

rating and sliding patio doors are certified to higher than an R4 rating.

A triple pane insulating glass unit is used – surface 2 is coated with LoE

2

-270

to reject the sun’s heat, the airspace is filled with argon gas* to further prevent

solar heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter, and surface 5 is coated with

LoE

2

-180.
